AH & I are trying our best not to cave into giving the little one a pacifier….but I noticed that his crying has intensified for the past 3 evenings.
Maybe Adam’s going through a growth spurt. Or maybe he just wants to suckle for comfort. At 7.30 pm just now, he nursed for about 10 minutes. At 8.05, he nursed for another 25 minutes! He let go but after that, his tiny thumb went right into his mouth again.
I’m not keen on the idea of having an infant stuck to my boobies every half an hour or so for the sake of comfort. That’ll be tough when I go back to work. Having him suck on his thumb is also not a pretty sight. Perhaps a pacifier is the answer to his recent crying.
Whatever it is, I’m just thankful he sleeps well at night. With, or without the pacifier. Maybe with a little thumb….
So how? Pacifier or nothing at all?

err, i bought a pacifier but only after being forcefully coerced by everyone.
i told my mum that i don’t plan on giving it to baby H but she went, “nanti kesian…dia nangis, how?”

Wah mahd! Siang betul u dah beli pacifier! Hehe!
All babies cry kan? And they cry for a reason – either wet, hungry or sleepy etc. Pple who don’t give pacifiers believe they can handle crying babies thru trial & error. My mom don’t advocate pacifiers, but recently, baby asik hisap jari for comfort aje, and tido pon kejap2 dah terbangun…so she suggested pacifiers.
Hari ni tengok Adam dah okay pulak..sighs…maybe shud buy a good one (heard Nuk & Avent ones are better) to standby…
and btw, Mahd I read that we shud try not to give pacifiers too early…wait until a mth or so…sebab takut baby reject BF pulak. Anyway, babies dont cry as much in their first mth..so I guess no harm waiting

i’d say no to pacifiers lor. then again, i’m one of those crazy naturalist mummy militants.
i think it’s perfectly fine for the baby to explore their fists, hands, fingers & thumbs with their mouths, coz it’s the most convenient and natural ‘toy’ for them at this point (and something familiar since they’ve been doing it in our wombs, they didnt need pacifiers in THERE, do they? i think hor, adults sumbat them with manmade pacifiers for their own sake so that they don’t have to hear the babies cry, wuahaa), the mouth is where they get the most pleasure from (they know coz they get yummy milk using their mouth), helps their eye-hand coordination, plus self-pacifying makes them more independent.
but that’s just my dua sen.

hana, AH & I feel the same way too..
tapi eh, pacifiers can buang..
jari? nak buang kat mana…?

i think thumbsucking will persist if a child has insecurity issues or something… otherwise, majority do get over the phase (with guidance, insyaallah)…

btw, u think pacifiers can so easily buang and they won’t look for it meh? some may get even MORE agitated when they cant find the SAME pacifier!

aUra…hey, welcome!
Kira kan u kasi dia latch on to you everytime dia nak tido eh?
That’s another of my worry. Takut nanti melekat pulak…hehe…
Firm? alahai… babies….sometimes nak firm dgn dorang pon tak sampai hati gitu…

that’s why when i said i don’t plan to give, sumer give me ‘THE LOOK’. i don’t recall whether i was a pacifier baby but i saw how difficult it was to get my sisters off it!!!
so, yes…it’s bought but let me hide it from baby H and his father, and his grandparents and his err…aunties and whoever else yang nak kasi dia pacifier :p
