After 2 mths of being at home in the mornings, I’ve only watched Primetime Morning on Channelnewsasia once so far….today. And how relevant it was to what I’m about to go through soon.
The segment discussed how the term ‘work life balance’ can get employers fearing that employees will give less to work, since work & life needed to be divided 50-50. So, advocates have come up with a new term, ‘work-life integration’. Ah, that sounds like a better term which suggests both employer & employee benefit equally from such a system. More time for family, flexibility in working arrangements equals higher productivity, better for firms…you get the drift.
I’m returning to work in exactly 2 weeks’ time, and thinking about how I can balance, oops, correction, I mean, how I can integrate work & life is something I’ve been doing almost everyday recently. Maybe I’ve been obsessed about wanting to care for my child exclusively, with the support of my mom, and this prompted AH to tell me that I’m not the only parent in this world who’s facing the situation of leaving my child at home while I work.
But as much as I’ve tried, I still think as though I’m the only parent who has to leave my child at home while I work. For several reasons….
So right now, I’m awaiting a reply from my employer and hope they’ll make it possible for me to integrate work & life at the same time through a special scheme. The segment I watched this morning, couldn’t have come at a better time. I hope the person who’s going to stamp ‘Approve’ on my application watched the show too. Who knows if he/she has TV mobile in his/her car…
For now, all I can do is pray really hard!
Whatever it is, I’ll still make the best of my time spent with Adam. Just in case….
